Protein is important in that it provides the amino acids your body needs to repair tissue. Protein also eliminates food cravings. If you do have a problem with cravings, try keeping some hard boiled eggs or cheese on hand, along with a bag of raw veggies such carrots, cucumber, broccoli, or cauliflower.

Research has shown that many people mistake thirst for hunger pangs. To keep from overeating, try drinking a glass of water when you feel hungry. Drinking too little water can slow your metabolism by up to 30 percent. Water also increases fat metabolism. Also not drinking enough water can cause your body to retain water as it tries to cleanse itself. You need at least 8-10 glasses of water daily. If you are trying to lose weight you will need an least one extra glass of water for every 20 pounds over your target weight.
