Metabolife
Metabolife was formerly made by California-based Metabolife International
the largest marketer of ephedra-based supplements. Ephedra based supplements
had been banned by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, but that ban was
struck down in April 2005 by the U.S. District Court in Salt Lake City. It
was argued that the FDA had not proven that supplements with 10 mg or less
of ephedrine-alkyloids per serving was dangerous. Since the ruling, the FDA
has announced plans to appeal. Metabolife had challenged the ban stating
their belief in the “safety and efficacy of dietary supplements that contain
ephedra when used as directed.” Despite the reversal of the ban, Metabolife
filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in July of 2005 and assets were
bought by IdeaSphere, Inc.
Metabolife’s original ephedra-based product was Metabolife 356, which
contained 12 mg of ephedrine alkaloids and is no longer available. Ephedra,
or Ma Huang, is a central nervous system stimulant that suppresses appetite
and has thermogenic (fat burning) qualities. Metabolife now offers four new
ephedra-free weight loss products: Metabolife Complete, Metabolife Ultra
Caffeine Free, Metabolife Ultra, and Metabolife Green Tea Formula. People
who take Metabolife products want to lose weight, boost their metabolism and
energy level.
Metabolife Complete is a daily system that boosts energy during the day yet
does not stimulate you at night. Metabolife Complete ingredients help curb
the appetite, burn fat and lose weight. The Complete System comes in three
formulas: pre breakfast (taken between 5 am-7 am); pre lunch (taken between
10 am-12 pm) and pre dinner (taken between 5 pm - 7 pm). Two capsules are

Caffeine Free is taken in the form of two capsules, three times a day, one
half hour before meals.
Metabolife Ultra works by helping curb your appetite and boosting energy
levels, thereby consuming fewer calories, increasing activity in order to
lose weight. Metabolife Ultra also contains vitamin B-6 and other B vitamins
as well as 75 mg of caffeine alkaloids. Vitamin B-6 plays an important role
I the breakdown and use of energy. Caffeine alkaloids are a basic stimulant
that helps to burn calories. Metabolife Ultra is taken in a 2-capsule
serving at least one hour before meals and can be taken in conjunction with

Metabolife Green Tea Formula is an ephedra-free green tea formula that helps
raise the body’s metabolism making it easier to burn calories. Two tablets
are taken three times a day, one hour before each meal.
As with any dietary supplement, Metabolife’s products should be taken as
directed and not exceed the recommended daily dose. They should not be taken
